Interpreting theory into practice, strategies to support FASD
This is a follow on session from the Stage 1 where we take a deeper dive and use what we know or what information we have gathered to start considering how to 'stop before we start'......
We start by recapping reflecting on providing a safe space for 'being', setting new expectations and working with the family to identify a method together to 'switch' a hyper-fixation
We discussed in our first session how the mind organises words and phrases -“language” - into streams of thought..... how do we learn from this and start changing the ways that we plan and communicate with learners?
We will encourage more reflection on shared practice in 'thinking differently'
How do we tune in and respond to some of the big emotions we see in children & young people? How can we meet this level or adapt quicky to avoid conflict and redirect?
Communication & pause; we will consider how talking in concrete terms can make a difference
Provide case examples of complex presentations and out of the box solutions
How do we teach 'how to think' strategies in our practice?
